I should clarify the speeding up the eccentric portion. Basically they are used to pull the weight down twds the lifter, so the person must remain tight and control the deceleration, then overpower the band on the concentric portion. I think I have a video using them during split squats...let me see if I can find it and post it.

They are Iron Woody Bands, very similar to jump stretch bands. They are primarily used in strength programs to excellerate the eccentric portion of the deadlift, squat, or bench press. Often times they are also used to assist the lift, hooked to the top of the rack to assist the most difficult portion of the above lifts. In this picture they are looped around 100 lb dbs sitting on top of one bumper plate. At 6 ft 5, the hands would be way overstretched if I didn't have them on the plate. I bought a few sets of them, and they are great, especially in a facilty without cables.
